The graceful spires of Saint Aelwyn's cathedral rise high above a large, sprawling city whose splendid buildings and patchwork fields are but a pleasant facade for the dark heart that lies within. On bustling streets, thieves flit amongst visiting nobility and the alleys are filled with shadows that move of their own accord. While war is waged on distant southern soil, smaller skirmishes play out closer to home between those who would practice black arts, and those who have sworn to cleanse the Kingdom of the taint of magery once and for all.

The Inquisition: Atonement is a free multi-user roleplaying game (MUD) with a mild fantasy theme.  Roleplay is enforced, and is the primary focus of the code.  See the page on ROLEPLAY for further details.  The theme itself centers around the evils of magic, and the holy church's efforts to vanquish it from the lands.  Various guilds stand in support of, or opposition against, the royal Crown and its oversight of the kingdom.

Character creation is in-depth, allowing you to define anywhere from the appearance and origins of your character, to birthdate, age and even height/weight.  A detailed recognition system allows you to introduce yourself as you see fit, not bound by the traditional code name others see you as.  For some of the unique aspects of TI's code, see the page on GAME FEATURES.
